The museum is building a residence in Minecraft

Tsaritsyno is building a residence in the virtual space of Minecraft game. We invited Minecraft fans who want to repeat the success of the 18th century architects Vasily Bazhenov and Matvey Kazakov to the construction site of exact replica of the palace ensemble and landscape park.

We decided to create an exact copy of Tsaritsyno in Minecraft – to reconstruct in the virtual world all of 400 hectares and what was built on them in the 18th-19th centuries. At the moment, only the Grand Palace model exists in the game. It was built by our friends from the HSE Minecraft project – students of the Higher School of Economics Roman Kurochkin, Azizbek Tulaganov and Olesya Yakovleva. You can see how it looks in the video.

The goal is to complete the Bread House, the Small Palace, the Opera House, the Grape Gate, the Figured Bridge, three Cavalry buildings and two park pavilions Milovida and Nerastankino to the model of the Grand Palace already existing in Minecraft and also to indicate the foundations of the Bazhenov buildings which were dismantled at the end of the 18th century during the construction of the Grand Palace.

We are deeply convinced that you can love architecture only if you know it well. That is why we want to build a “virtual Tsaritsyno” in Minecraft: so that everyone who plays this game has the opportunity to learn the history of Tsaritsyno Park and the construction of the imperial residence of Catherine II.
