In April 2019 a new permanent exhibition “Tsaritsyno of Catherine II” opened. It’s dedicated to the Empress, who initiated the construction of Tsaritsyno.
The exhibition at the Grand Palace halls talks about design plans and twenty years of construction of Tsaritsyno Palace, Catherine II’s Moscow residence. “Apart from plans and drawings, it also shows the “human dimension” of architecture, i.e. historical figures, who founded Tsaritsyno,” explains curator Olga Dokuchayeva. The exhibition covers a certain period in Tsaritsyno history, starting from Catherine II’s purchase of Chernaya Gryaz estate in 1775, when it was renamed Tsaritsyno.
Director Andrei Silvestrov created video installations involving famous actors and relying on real historical documents. “We managed to gather a dream team,” says director Andrei Silverstov. “It included true professionals, who worked on creating make-up and costumes on the biggest historical film projects. We tried to make a museum blockbuster with Russian movie superstars, in which we tell a dramatic story about how the palace was being constructed, but never completed.”
