The international competition “Golden Trezzini” will be held with the support of Tsaritsyno Museum

Elizaveta Fokina, General Director of Tsaritsyno Museum, entered the jury of the Third International Architecture and Design Competition “Golden Trezzini”. The museum became a partner of the competition.

“Working in Tsaritsyno, the residence of Catherine the Great, everyone experiences a special property of the space of 18th century architecture, which can be defined as “the territory of inspiration”, emphasizes Elizaveta Fokina. “The dedication of the competition of modern architecture to Domenico Trezzini once again confirms the relevance of the heritage of the past, the ideas that were laid down at that time.”

The competition is named in honor of the first architect of St. Petersburg, a Russian architect of Swiss origin Domenico Trezzini (1670–1734). The motto of the competition is “Architecture as Art”. The purpose of the competition is to identify and encourage the most artistically valuable projects in the field of architecture, design, restoration and museum affairs. The works of the winners will be shown at an exhibition in the Peter and Paul Fortress, and then included in the funds of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, the general partner of the competition.

Honorary Chairman of the International Council of the Competition – President of the World Club of Petersburgers, General Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky. The chairman of the council is Vladimir Zapevalov, representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in St. Petersburg. The jury of the competition, along with Elizaveta Fokina, includes architects Daniel Libeskind, Mario Botta, Massimiliano Fuksas, Eduardo Soutu de Moura (2011 Pritzker Prize laureate), Toyo Ito (2013 Pritzker Prize laureate), Ricardo Bofillavi, Ferrari chief designer Flavio Manzoni and over 200 more experts from 30 countries.

Finalists will be announced on November 5, winners on December 1.

According to the organizing committee, more than 400 projects from Australia, Azerbaijan, Argentina, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Hungary, Great Britain, Germany, Hong Kong, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Yemen, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Cyprus, China, Korea, Latvia, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, UAE, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Syria, USA, Turkey, Ukraine, Finland, France, Montenegro and Japan have already been admitted to the competition.

The winners of the competition will be awarded with gilded statuettes of Domenico Trezzini and diplomas at a ceremony to be held in St. Petersburg on December 1, 2020.
