Sep. 15, 2021
From Sunday, September 19, guests of Tsaritsynо will be able to visit the large exhibition project of 2021 “Theatrocracy. Catherine II and the Opera”. This is the museum and theater project which will present Empress Catherine II as a theatrical figure, whose views and approaches to the creation of theatrical works in the 18th century are very consonant with how we perceive theater in the 21st century.
One of the key features of the exhibition will be a VR-movie by director Mikhail Patlasov and playwright Ilya Kukharenko, starring Ingeborga Dapkunaite as Catherine. The conductor Philip Chizhevsky and the Questa Musica ensemble with soloists of the Bolshoi Theater will play the rarest fragments of Russian and Italian operas of the 18th century performed at the court of Catherine II. An extensive public program of theater performances, concerts and lectures awaits visitors at the exhibition.
The project is carried out with the support of the Moscow Department of Culture in partnership with Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation, Golden Mask Festival, Territory International School of Contemporary Art, State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia and Moscow Theater of New Opera. The exhibition-festival will be held at the Grand Palace from September 19, 2021 to January 9, 2022 (according to the museum’s schedule).
